This was on HN 20 hours ago, and not EU specific, why would we want to discuss it here again?

Thought the same. Maybe we can check for duplicates when links are submitted and ask the submitter to reconsider?

I strongly disagree. If we start doing that, than pretty much any link will be a likely duplicate: HN is much older and larger community and you can not expect that HE can have only original links.

In the end, it's not only about the posts, but about the comments and discussion; what I would like of this site is european centric discussion, no matter if the original post was discussed somewhere else or not. Am I wrong?

Agree. And from my opinion, removing duplicates is like a signal that Hackful Europe should be a site you can go after you visited HN. This will not help making HE to an independent place.

I didn't see it on HN, I was here all day :-)

A good reason for including this article is that "local" on this side of the Atlantic is probably very different from the car-oriented organization of cities in the USA. So the points raised in the article as well as the comments on HN might not necessarily apply. A discussion here might be better at highlighting the similarities and differences from a European perspective rather than trying to create a sub-discussion within the comment system on HN.
