Ask HE: What online payment platform do you use in Europe?
With the high concentration of countries in Europe, the mix of online payment laws between the countries make it difficult for one system for satisfy all of them.
So the question, what solutions are available for a Startup to consider when setting up in Europe?

Almost every Belgian website that involves payment that I've encountered uses Ogone. http://www.ogone.com/
I've never dealt with them or their API directly, I've only made use of services that use Ogone payments from time to time as a customer. It's pretty straightforward stuff.
In the Netherlands the most popular by far is iDeal, but notably iTunes went with EasyCash (or what was its name). In Poland you have a bunch of solutions – every bank has its own, and platforms like ePay and Pay24 let you integrate a bunch of them at once.
