The point about cloud computing applies particularly to groups with big bags of money to spend since acquiring infrastructure, whether it is lab equipment or computers, is seen as a good thing. The picture is a little different for individuals who buy computers to crunch numbers then find out that the effort to manage and administer them is certainly non-zero. As a result cloud services are certainly attractive but there is a little inertia or conservatism to overcome. Some education is probably required to show that the costs are usually less, the serivces are more flexible and the availbility is as good or probably better than the hjardware they have.
